a bit concerning....

I was quite shocked to receive in the mail the other day this letter from my kids' elementary school sent to all parents, it reads..."Dear Parents, I am writing to enlist your support with a concern that has been raised concerning the impact of "energy" drinks on behavior. It is not my intent to regulate what your children bring to drink for lunch each day...our students are consuming at lunch drinks like Monster, Red Bull, RockStar and Pepsi Max, these have significantly high levels of caffeine, which may affect your child adversely. [Ya think?] It goes on...In one instance last week, a student "sold" a Monster energy drink to another student who experienced ill effects from having consumed this product. [gulp] My kids are in Kindergarten and second grade. What is this world coming to? I can say first hand that when I volunteer during the warm months to watch the kids at recess following lunch, I can't imagine shortly after right when that stuff starts to kick in that these poor teachers try to teach. It's hard enough when they're not on caffiene. Don't you think the principle should have every right and instead of saying 'it is not my intent to regulate...', but make it a rule to not allow these drinks on school property? I don't want my kids to be sitting next to some kid drinking one of these and think it's okay...did you know that a RockStar, for instance, is equivalent to 4 cups of coffee? Crazy.

That is CRAZY! I can't imagine Truman drinking one. I wonder if they allow those drinks at school. They are NOT good for adults, let alone kids! SCARY!

It's a shame that they put things out like this. These days kids get a hold of anything and take it overboard - adults too. It's dangerous and not good for the human body. I'nm glad you told me I need to make Nicolas aware of something like this.

Wow! I can't believe that little kids drink that stuff- crazy! I am so glad I found you too, it has been a long time. I was thinking about Paris and cannot believe it has been 10 years. We are in St. George. What is your email address, I would love to email you and catch up!

Cute blog. I spent 15 minutes reading cute past posts. I will have to come to your site for great recipes. I am glad that you like New York. I liked living outside of Utah, it gives you great perspectives on many different things. You have cute kids, who take great pictures. Robyn Brown

i am ashamed to say that my kids could recognize an energy drink because i always have at least one in the fridge. BUT no way would i ever condone them at schools! I think it is the parents that need to be checking the lunch bags, not the school.

I can't believe that! Those poor teachers who have to put up with extra hyper kids. Doesn't it make you wonder whose packing the lunches at home? Jayden would love to pack her own but I think it would have a surplus of Doritos!
