My thoughts today have been turned towards:
Giving Thanks. I believe it's one of the most important keys to happiness.
Thanksgiving is just less than 3 weeks away.
The most beautiful bright golden yellow leaves adorn my trees and cover the grass. I've intentionally filled my lungs with deep breaths of cool crisp air more times than I can count. Our dinner menus include soups + stews + fresh out of the oven dinner rolls. I've purchased warm knit gloves for chilly bus rides to school. Our beverage of choice is hot cocoa with whip cream + sprinkles on top. Fuzzy warm blankets are a hot commodity at our house. It must be fall!
The high pressure + materialistic qualities of December can wait - November is all about gratitude.
I read today a staggering statistic if you have more than two pairs of shoes, can afford 6 straight meals in a row + have more than one change of underwear you are in the top 5% richest in the world.
Gratitude is the first of the 6 B's from President Hinckley. My favorite quotes on this topic include: "Walk with gratitude in your hearts" "Let a spirit of Thanksgiving guide and bless your days + nights" + "Sincerely giving thanks not only helps us recognize our blessings, it also unlocks the door of heaven and helps us feel God's Love"
My favorite talk to spread that Thanksgiving spirit was given in the Ensign by Elder Wirthlin it is found here.
Monday night = {FHE} lesson (easy as pressing print)
On to the fun stuff:
Thanksgiving BINGO! - using candy corn as markers!
Cranberry Jar Count - glass jar filled with fresh cranberries. During the day while preparing the big meal have the kids + guests put in their guesses.
Teach your kids about the First Thanksgiving
Make a Thanksgiving Tree: If you have an extra $89 you can buy it. Or like me, you can also do the same idea and make one yourself from a branch in the yard steadied in a glass jar filled with corn kernals to hold it in place. Use colored pieces of paper to write down your thoughts.
